Important Events and Time Periods When They Occurred

The start of the Latin American revolution
1791- Haiti’s slave’s exploded in revolt: Revolution in France was taking place and Haiti was vulnerable so they rebelled.
1809-Ecuador became under Spanish control in 1809
1810- Hidalgos speech: Hidalgo urges Mexican’s to fight for independence.
1811-Paraguayan Independence: colonist overthrew the Spanish governor and started to plan a revolution.
1814-Battle of Rancagua: A battle during the Chilean war of independence, the Chileans was defeated by the Spanish forces.
1820-In Spain the government was changing and liberals made the king create a constitution. The Mexicans overthrew the Spanish rule in Mexico and were finally free in 1821.
1821-El Salvador was under the control of the pipil Indians, who descended from the Aztecs then they declared independence in 1821.
1822-Ecuador started a revolt called the battle of Pichincha they won against Spanish control became independent.
1822-Napolean concurred Portugal so the king of Portugal told his son to look after Brazilian case of a revolution and instead he went and Dom Pedro (king’s son) accepted a constitution in Brazil which he would lead the government.
1860-Domincan republic leaves Spain to become independent but then the new president had ordered the queen to return back. The queen was in agreement but then they would later fight to regain their independence in the Dominican Restoration War.
1864- Cuba's fight for independence it started with a war that lasted 10 years which they lost. In a few years the asked for help from the U.S. This later on resulted in Cuba getting their independence but the start of the Spanish American War.
